We are back after taking some time away from the Summer of Making blog. Right now we are busy planning for the Summer of 2010! We are also incredibly excited about the following classes that are being offered this spring (check around town or your mail box for the new catalog, online registration is coming soon).
The three new fiber arts courses are:
Pattern Design + Printing

From Denyse Schmidt’s website: ”For the past year or so, Denyse has ended her Improvisational Patchwork classes with a plea. She asked students to leave behind one quilt square made in that day’s class. The plan was for the quilt blocks to be sewn together and the finished quilt donated to a charity. The first quilt is now finished and the Bridgeport Rescue Mission is the happy recipient of the first Workshop Quilt. “
Denyse asked her Summer of Making students to participate in leaving one square behind. While I don’t know if any of the SoM squares made it into this first quilt, everyone should be proud.
This fall we are really excited about our new printmaking class Books in Multiples. From words to images, this course teaches the basics of printing, binding and concepting a multiple edition book. You can check out Jordan + Tyler’s blog to see the work they have done at Kitty Cat Press. This class uses your design experience (formal or informal) to create books to share with just your friends or with a wider audience.
You have to see (and read about) Amy’s quilt. Amazing!
I am really digging Sandra Schlosser’s new gardening blog .

Bryan, a student in Artful Blogging, has released his new website.
We have wrapped up the Summer of Making! The Artful Blogging classed finished Wednesday night. We were incredibly pleased how much progress everyone made on their blogs.
This summer exceeded our expectations not only in what people created, but the energy and enthusiasm. We are already starting to plan for next spring and summer. We will be letting you know what is going on throughout the year on the blog, so while our posts may be less frequent we will still be here. We will also be following some of CE’s classes in this spot, including Books in Multiples, Beginning Letterpress and All About Fabrics.
Thanks so much!
A new set is on Flickr of the work from Brenda Mallory and Kim Lakin’s Contemporary Fiber Arts course. There are some stunning pieces included!
We will be doing a wrap up post on the Summer of Making shortly and making some exciting announcements about future classes. This fall PNCA Continuing Education has has a full schedule of classes including the following print and fabric courses. Sarah Schlosser-Moon is teaching a creative advantage Saturday workshop All About Fabrics. Learn all about using different fabrics in art, garment and quilt sewing. Sarah will be returning from Quilt Market shortly before the class starts and will have some interesting insights on the upcoming trends. This class is only $15 if you are enrolled in another CE class during the fall term.
Tyler Matta and Jordan Bernier the artists behind the Summer of Making poster, are teaching a new class in Continuing Education Books in Multiples. This course will combine the traditional craft of book arts with the idea of multiples. The students will work independently to understand a variety of bookmaking techniques that encompass both craft and concept.
Abra Ancliffe is once again teaching the very popular Letterpress class. This introduction to letterpress printing focuses on the distinct power of combining text and image using PNCA’s two Vandercook presses.
